chugger-naught

well.. i bought myself a shane speal chugger 2 stringer .. and much to my dismay ... the box was glued shut ,, nailed shut ,and sealed for life . ( unlike the video in his ad that says it is just held in with a screw and you can ad piezos etc ... ) anyway ., i had dreams of ploping 4 teisco pickups on this and making a monster ,, but with the lack of room , string height, and the sealed box it was too much to altar without making a new guitar .. so i improvised ,, i changed the bridge to an old chrome teisco which raised the strings a bit .. and i took a cheap china pickup and flipped it upsidedown and placed it OVER the strings . ;-)added a volume and tone and jack with out even cutting into the guitar .. i went through the sound holes for the controls and had to fish out the jack with an earth magnet to get it to the hole i drilled . and "TADAA! ": . we have a shane sealpick chuggernaught . ;-)cause its "naught " really a chugger any more .its much better i must say . ;-)hope ya like her .( im just trying different sound checks on her here . )(there's before and after pics in there too . )

  • which is   perfectly  fine ,  unless they are advertised  as  otherwise  ;-)
  • I also like for my gits to have a good acoustic sound first after all they were at first acoustic and the way I install the necks doesnt allow for the box to be opened.
  • I always glue the boxes shut. I dont trust cigar boxes to stay together as it is and if I didnt glue them together I would worry about them for sure. Quality and stability is first in any of my builds.

  • oh   , i wasn't dissing shane or his work ,  it's a great lil finished   product if   one was buying  it for that reason .

i  , however,  was buying  it with the intention / option   of adding on (as advertised ) . so the  glue and nails were a surprize .

the ad  in the store  showed  a video of the  old style chugger , that's where it was said  it was just a screw  holding it in place and you could add to piezos / pickups  to it  etc .  the  other  differences  were mentioned .. the glue and nails were not .  just an over sight  in  making the ad   i guess .  no  biggy .

plus it  all worked out  anyway  ;-)

  • sleep  now  john  , so    i can  steal some more info  ;-)

  • oh no!!

  • it will be assimilated  .. resistance  is futile

      ;-)
  • 2 string chugger......now available with added testosterone!

  • remote viewing & mind reading ...  my other hobby  ;-)

     lol.

  • this is bizarre- as i was drifting off to sleep the upsidedown pickup crossed my mind- now this morning i see this!!!

nice to see problem solving at work..;)
