Awesome Mark.....I know open G is popular...but since you have frets, you could try changing tuning to ADF#B (D6 open tuning) and use ukulele chord charts. Obviously doesn't sound like a uke, but easier chords to be found if looking for easy playing without barre/power chords only.
And yes, those Las Cabrillas boxes are cool. Rock on...
