Somewhere Over The Rainbow, played on four string cigar box guitar. This is the first thing I have put here using fingering rather than just slide. I really wasn't getting fingering, which I don't really understand, but for some reason something clicked and so here is my first attempt at doing something with fingering and some slide.

Funnily enough learning this coincided with that arrival of a really super gift. Keni Lee's CD 6 which uses the same tuning intervals on three strings as the upper three on the four sting that I am using. I am only just starting to go through the lessons, but it makes a lot of sense.

The guitar is tuned GDGB. The guitar has both humbucker and two piezos in the bridge. He amp is a Kustom Arrow 16DFX, set to the clean channel with the three EQ knobs level and some reverb/chorus.

By the way, if you want to hear/see how it should be done go to
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ubVGiyAhkY
and find the extraordinary Tommy Emmanuel playing what I think is the best version I have heard.

Hi Mark and Belinda.

In some ways I rather hope it's quarter or eighth baked, as I hope I am not already half way there. I was hoping to get a lot better than this. Now jammin' is another thing. Not even 16th baked enough to do that yet.

Thanks. I do really appreciate the feedback.

All the best.

John

ha, well it didn't sound that half baked, I was just quoting Keni ; -)

I think its great John, recording as you progress can help you quantify your progress. Posting it can be an encouragement to the rest of us, and I like how you have shown your little "discovery" here!

In fact, I think your ready to cut loose and do some Jammin' and Improvisin' brother!

Oh and of course, love the latest build, you never cease to impress!

Hi Belinda, Col. and Richard.

Thank you all very much for commenting. Belinda. I do "half baked" rather well if I say so myself.

All the best.

Hi Keni Lee and Steve.

Thanks for the comments.

Keni Lee. Yes. I know what you mean, but I think I will leave this here for the moment and maybe come back to it later. I want to try for a more blues oriented application of fingering so I posted this as a "This is where I am right now" sort of statement. I hope to post a "Haven't I moved on" type of video as and when I do move on (if you see what I mean). Thanks again for the CD. I feel sure it will help me fill in many more gaps in my ability.

Thanks again to both of you.

John

GDGB way to go John, you're compiling quite a good repertoire! (-:

You go boy...The more you try to explore the fingerboard with your ear and your knowledge of musical theory, the better your ability to arrange songs will get over time. Keep up the good work.

Although, I would suggest that you resist the temptation to post until you completed the arrangement.

I compare it to serving a half baked cake.

Thank you for sharing, Keni Lee
