What's up guys I'm bout 5 builds in and I was wanting to do a dovetail joint to mount my neck to the body but I need measurements for the jig or is there a template I can buy thanks
It is a very complicated joint, but beautiful in design and execution.
I use two lag bolts myself. I ensure that the end of the neck is truly 90% to the neck, and bolt the neck on from the inside of the resonator box, and use glue as well. The lag bolt heads are very ugly, but are never seen.
Why do you want to use a dovetail joint? For 3 or 4 string guitars it's a needlessly complicated joint, and structurally it's not necessary. There are very specific reasons why the traditional dovetail is used in 6 string acoustic guitars, and many modern 6 string makers use a simpler tenon joint or bolt-on neck. The bolt-on is easier and quicker to make and has the huge advantages of adjustability and ease of repair.
