Hi folks, I'm looking for a bit of guidance here regarding learning material, I don't know the who's who of CBG yet so who should i be studying? who does the best lessons? what's the best How To Play…Continue
Hi folks, this is my first post on the site, i am brand new to CBG having only discovered them a few weeks back through reading Moaning At Midnight, the Howling Wolf story.
In the book Wolf talks about Didlely Bows and CBG's and i did a bit of surfing and liked what i saw so i decided to have a go at building one.
I can't play a note of Guitar so i'm hoping that having put the effort into building one it will push me into learning to play one!
I play a bit of Blues Harmonica and sing and write origonal songs under the name Geordiebluesman ( feel free to check out my You Tube site if you fancy a laugh!)
.
I have an Apalation Mountain Dulcimer which i can play a bit but it is a bit too folksy for me, i want that Delta Blues sound so i'm hoping that the CBG will get me there.
Anyway i'm looking foward to the challenge and will be glad of any Top Tips you guys can give me.
Cheers Steve AKA Geordiebluesman.

Well i'm at the electronics stage of my build and have a Pizzio type Pickup which apparently mounts on the underside of the Cigar Box lid,so i'm looking for some advice about the best position for tone and volume between the Bridge and the last fret or altenatevly some advice about better pickup options.
Cheers Steve AKA Geordiebluesman.

Despite it having been one HELL of a heavy duty week at work so far i managed to fit the string tensioners and frets to the neck of my CBG build today so it's starting to look like a bit of a Guitar now and not just a lump of wood. I'm gonna have to spent some time with the file working on those trimed fret ends though coz they're like jagged teeth at the mo!

Hi Steve, let me know how you get on and if you still need a slowed down vid I'll do it for you another time... All the best Paul
Hi Steve, I'll check out your videos, I love the harmonica...
I think you will find Keni's video very helpful. Just learning that 12 bar blues scale is worth the few dollars it cost in my book. I'll post another progression video next Wed/Thurs. ( Just so you can chuckle!)
Keep in touch and when the video arrives let me know how you get on with it.
All the best
Paul
Hi Steve,
I am glad you found the video useful. My personal choice is for a magnetic pickup with a bit of piezo added. I also like to coil tap magnetic pickups so you get more choice in the sound (series/spilt coil/parallel). The box guitar was one I made a while ago (the neck is off a strat stripped for parts by an ebay seller) - I really like the big space you get in these boxes to play around with the electrics.
I hope you find the sound you are looking for.
Regards,
David
