Grounding Mini Humbucker and Hardtail Bridge

I've built 3 cbgs so far and haven't grounded any of them. This one, the one I'm moving the bridge on, really needs to be grounded. And I'm not 100% confident I know the right way to do it.I'm going…Continue

A while back I bought a Delta Grooves neck because, new to guitar building, I wanted to see how nice a neck could be. I finally put this into a nice Tabak box. Humbucker pickups, enclosed tuners,…Continue

Gap between box lid and box question

Started this discussion. Last reply by Fomhorach Oct 19, 2016. 15 Replies

There's a gap between the lid and the box of about 1/32" at it's greatest point. I think it's because of the hinges or maybe it's just because the lid and box weren't subjected to strict QC (It's a…Continue

"Hi Mel, what Tom T says pretty well nails it. Me, I have a stash of these thin boxes and I will not use them unless I put a pickup in them. If one looks at how sound is created in a stringed instrument it will be easier to work it out for…"

Mel Cooke replied to Richard Wilkins's discussion How do you all deal with shallow cigar boxes?
"So much to learn, thank you. I do plan to amplify but am hoping the guitar will sound good enough to play without the amplifier. I suppose I should also be looking into the characteristics of different woods and box dimensions. My third guitar will…"

Jammin’ with a local in San Francisco.

Visited San Francisco earlier this year and came across a couple local dudes playing what appeared to be hand made Asian guitars. He saw me admiring the guitars and said, “Here! Play it!” and handed me a two string guitar. I made some noise for a…

Tom T replied to Richard Wilkins's discussion How do you all deal with shallow cigar boxes?
"A box with a 1 1/2" exterior thickness would usually have an interior thickness around 1 1/8". That assumes that the top and bottoms are around 1/8" thick each This box would easily accept a standard 3/4" thick 1 x 2. If you…"

"do you have any pictures of your 1 1/4" build? Love to see it as I'm about to venture into my second build (first was a kit from Gitty) and found a 1 1/2" box I really love the looks of."

Mel Cooke replied to Richard Wilkins's discussion How do you all deal with shallow cigar boxes?
"So what would be the result of using a 1 1/2" exterior dimension box. I've also run across a stunning fuego red box and would love to use it. I saw one poster who mentioned that thinner boxes may be louder. Thoughts on acoustics from…"

It never occurred to me that I could make a guitar. And after I made one, I realized I made something that makes music. I made something that makes music!!! Glenn Watt said something about 'Art that makes art'. The other fascinating thing about them is that they are ALL different. Even the ones that are the same have slight differences. Every one is a one of a kind.
