these frets are made from baling wire that was made into staples and the inserted into pre drilled hole,, I did this almost thirty years ago

  • No it was just pre-drilled holes they were just slightingly smaller than the wire diameter ,,

    the fret board is 3.5 mm and the holes were drilled between 2 & 3mm along the fret location.

    My memory is not what it was bet it seems that staple end was maybe an 1/8 inch long  there is actually no strain on them at all  as all they are doing is holding the wire fret in place.

     

    I think  as i made it 4/6/82  that was a day or two ago..  the only reason I remember is i wrote it down on the inside.  lol  the system does work very good.. sadly I can not buy baling wire over here.

  • Hi, Alan!  Just found this photo!  Did you carve a shallow trench to set the wire into, or just the holes?
  • It is just two small holes drilled along the fret placement line and then a wire staple made to fit across the line. the Man that made the kit was a researcher for a museum project and he found that it was created that way in the southern part of the Appalachians if my memory is right..
