always thought these were cool boxes, but due to the thickness of the lids, they don't sound so hot as cbgs when constructed conventionally. The best option is usually just to flip it over and build with the bottom as the instrument top.. which I am told works and sounds great.I'm sure others have done this before, but....Out of curiosity -and because for some reason I have accumulated like, a gazillion of these boxes- I decided to try thinning-down the inside of the lid with a router and building a 4-string, lid-side-up. It turned out even better than I'd hoped. Big, warm & loud. I was so jazzed, I immediately tore off another lid, threw it on the router table and built a 3-string out of that one.
