UBass

This is my first UBass Build. I've had the parts for over a year but just finally got around to putting them together just before Christmas. My intentions were to build it with a 20" scale length but when i started cutting the slots for frets I grabbed a printout I used for another build for a Baritone Uke with scale length of 23".I had it completely built and was playing around with it through an amp before I noticed the Octave 12th fret was no where near where it should be. Luckily the strings were long enough and I had enough room to move the bridge 3"!! Im pretty happy with it now. (These pics were taken before I lengthened the scale)

  • I just used piezo pickups in the neck. They really don't sound bad. I wanted to have one directly behind the bridge but the bridge ended up getting moved 3" due to my error when I cut the fret slots. (I was looking at the wrong scale length reference paper I had on the bench) you can see them in other pic
  • I noticed you havent used an under the bridge pickup like the UBASS. How is the sound ! Joe from Sunshine Coast Ukulele Masters used Wipper Snipper string for his Bass. He bought 4 rolls which cost him $100.00 au and has enough to last him for a lifetime. We are building a couple of Fibreglass Cutaway Bass UKES with Canadian rock Maple necks, and Blackhearted Saffafras toneboards , Dreadlock strings, but we are having problems obtaining the pickups. . Bruce from Sandstone Point, Queensland Australia.

  • I put 2 piezo pickups in the neck and a switch to select either or both.
