  • The neck is mahogany. A friend gave me two pieces that had come from an 80 year old book case that had been dismantled years ago. He had it in his garage for years and was going to burn it (Aaaaggg). Funny thing. Before I started cutting them they looked almost identical. One is much more dense and heavy (by almost 50%) than the other. This is one from the dense piece. It was big enough for a total of four necks. The other one should do five or so.

Not sure if this is true, but I was told that you can tell proper mahogany by wetting it. If the grain raises up and feels rough then it isn't. This is the real stuff apparently.

  • Wow! Gorgeous. What type of wood is that?
  • Thanks Slim. It's great to have the comment.
  • Hi Jay and legnahkra. Thanks for the comments. This piece of mahogany was given to me and I am really taken with how attractive it is.
  • awesome..!
  • Hi Jeremiah. Tru oil is a gun stock finish. As far as I know it is a type of refined linseed oil with additives. I apply it just using a finger and leave it over night. I tried it on a box but it seemed to dry a bit too fast and I got smeary edges because the box was too big an area. Works for me on necks though.
  • Shiny. Wonderful. What's Tru oil? :-)
