The Stealth

The mag is hidden under the fret board extension, the fake fret is really the rail for the mag. 26" scale length.

  • Ah, yes, I have the big picture now.  There's really no wood to interfere with the magnetic field if you hollowed out the neck extension under the fake fret.  Stealth indeed!  Great idea Randy!   Thanks for the break down!

  • Here`s the break down;  The mag is set in a maple block that's also the neck support. I mounted the mag with the springs between the mag and the wood. Gives it a spongy action. Then I slotted the lid so the middle 4 poles of the mag are exposed. Laid a cut piece of an allen wrench on the mag and laid on the chambered out fret board extension. When i screw down the extension it puts pressure on the mag and with the springs pushing up everything makes contact. Plugged it in last night ...Success !!!  it has a fuller sound which i like, plus i can play up to the last real fret with no problems in pickup. I screwed the build together so i`ll probably go back later and add other electronics like pots and a rod piezo.

  • Cool idea Randy!  Is the pickup still strong enough through the wood?  Is the allen wrench set into the box top wood at all or is it in the neck extension?   Nice work.

  • Makes total sense now...the name was to obvious for me to pickup on it...really like it.!!

  • Another feature why it looks hidden is the fret board extension was cut right off the fret board, so the grain runs through to the end.

  • That's why I named it the ....Stealth....

  • You did a Fantastic "fix it" Job, I would never known there was one in there.!!!

  • I just used a cheapy 6 pole mag, which is sunk under the lid. There`s a slot over the 4 poles in the middle with a cut allen wrench as a spacer between the rail and the mag top.

  • Thx Ted....yeah I`m one of those builders that hates seeing a 6 pole mag on a 1x2 neck, this is my " fix it "  for that...lol.

  • Randy, really Nice build, and Great idea with the Mag pup.!!
