Always wanted to try a Gretsch style cigar box, and finally got round it. Started life as a wine gift box with 2 bottles of red inside....several weeks and several bottles later I kind of got the sort of thing I had in my head made. The hardest bit now is to remove the orange wood dye that has seemed to got it's self splattered on the majority of my househouse belongings!

  • That binding really makes it pop. I like the color too...like a classic Gretsch. I once owned a Gretsch "Chet Atkins Country Gentleman". I had to trade it for a Marshal half-stack.

  • yes I had to route channels in the top and bottom of the box and along the sides of the neck. Then scrapped the binding flush to the surface with a stanley knife blade.The f holes just have to be sanded flat and glue the binding straight on.

  • Did you have to cut grooves into the edges of the box to fit the binding into it..?

This is still one of my favourite builds, it was the first time I had tried binding the edges of the guitar and neck, very tricky but worth he effort in the end.
