There were lots of surface checks in the Maple venire on front and back. I sanded it off smooth and used wipe on Poly varnish. There was duct tape residue all over the area around the control plate which wasn't easy to get off there. I got the best results by scraping with my box cutter blade, goo gone and lots of sanding.
