Tailblock and scroll glued up

Oak salvaged from some 1/2" thick baseboards. The scroll is made of 3 pieces like a sandwich hollowed out for the tuners.Good job I saved the cardboard horsehead template I made for my first scroll, because it took quite a bit of measuring to make. It has the tuner positions marked out on it, as well as the cut marks for the sides.I made up some pattern pieces out of old lumber for making up future scrolls and tailblocks.

  • Dave I learned one thing working with White Pine that doesn't seem to work on Cedar- if you dent it you can put a little spit on it and rub it in, and the dent will pull itself out
  • Ya the cedar dents easy. I,ve been denting my white pine with bar clamp plastic calls. I,m accepting that as " aging". Might as well just beat up my builds with a naily club. Go for "old". ;^)
  • Thanks, Dave, they work pretty good- I need to get some longer carriage bolts and wing-nuts for wider stuff though. I made them out of a Spruce 2 x 4 so they're softer than most of the stuff I'm clamping. I scratched my Western Red Cedar up using those PVC pipe clamps!
