Surf Chugger CBG: V1, V2, and V3

Tuned GD. Morphed from a dowel to a D neck, scale length 23.5” to 24”, and screwed down fretboard to double stick taped one, set screw string termination now part of tuners, fishing line strings. Not there yet! V4 will stretch scale length to 27”.

  • Thanks Brian! Molding for a fretboard is a cool idea I had not considered. I have never used a dowel for a neck to this point, but the idea of cutting a dowel to length and simply attaching everything else appeals to me for low labor necks for my BYOB (Bring Your Own cigar Box) classes. The idea morphed to a D neck (easy to make with a router and a roundover bit) because the screw on fretboard was problematic. I’m confident a longer scale length will give better tone with fishing lines, so V2 will get a new neck soon; it’s on my workbench.

  • Kool, I do Diddley bow’s in a similar fashion, but I use molding & toothpicks for the fretboard?
