thanks for the advice. i've glued a strut to the inside of the violin top, parallel to the bass bar, which will then be glued to the centre strut. hopefully that will be strong enough. we'll just have to see. I'm almost there so it won't be long before i find out / rip it in two.
i have to admit, i used your work as a basis for a lot of my ukulele when i was designing it. they're great. Do you think that having the strings attached to a bridge glued onto the body will be strong enough? I have seen a number of different violeles and they all had tail pieces instead. is that through necessity or design?

ps .. i'm flattered ;-)
i'm guessing even if you used nylon strings .. the tension would be to great just glued on the body .
bracing to a block or the neck inside would help. or even the strings anchored through the neck and body from the back would work .
seems the tail is just easiest and most worry free .
but .. like i said .. i'm guessing ;-)
