Thanks for the ideas Elmar. Would changing to brass screws help? The hum is not loud, so i don't really need to do anything on this build. Maybe in the future. I like the idea to skip the pots altogether. I'd miss my peanut knobs though. I like the knobs, wiring and tone control. I like a bass tone. I could just use the amp for all that stuff. I don't keep my amp handy enough. Would have to change my ways. Oh No.... not that....
I'm also thinking how to get rid of the hizz which sometimes occurs. The mounting screws could also be a reason, they are not shielded and mostly from iron. Flatpups in brass housing are really quiet, shielded of course.
250k or 500k as vol pot... I simply don't know... That's why I recommend the direct way to the jack ;-)
No problem. I'm a waaaaay beginner so maybe I'm overly cautious when it comes to wiring. Even Elmar doesn't have much of a suggestion when it comes to connecting volume & tone. I've been meaning to test a flatpup 4 with my Ohm meter to try to match it up the the right volume pot if I ever use one but the prevailing sentiment seems to be 250K. I don't think there's a 'right' answer at this point - Elmar's pups are so different and new...
Thanks for the suggestion. I like volume and tone though. The next Flatpup i use, i'll try the direct approach. I suppose if i made a box inside this box around the tone and volume pots, i could shield inside that small box. Maybe i'll try that on a build in the near future. Thanks Craig...
Have you tried wiring straight to jack without vol/tone? When I've done that with a Flatpup they're quiet as heck. Even in non-shielded builds. Maybe some shielding would help in this case?
Thanks Craig for the info on Elmar's pup. I love the sound of Elmar's pups whatever magnets he uses. I get a little hum from them at higher volume levels, but i seldom use high volume. I have grounded the strings via the tailpiece wired to my volume pot back. Don't know if there's anything else I can do to lessen the hum? I don't hear the hum when i'm playing anyways...

I get 'em from ebay. pretty cheap in the States
Frank, I get them from China, from dealextreme.com. They are cheap, but shipping takes long. One and a halve moon more or less.
