this is my latest build. took about 4 months to get it right.it was a genuine working spade up until i snapped the head off digging in the garden.it's stainless steel and so extremely hard that i bruised my ribs drilling it. whilst it looks real simple, i had to re-design much of it along the way simply to get it right, it really wasn't straight forward at all.inspiration came from seeing Justin Johnson and his now famous shovel guitar.the sound is absolutely outstanding, because it is so hard the whole thing resonates, giving it huge amounts of natural sustain.the strap is a custom made hand built piece of craftsmanship from heistercamp. my daughter got he boyfriend that for christmas. so not only does he look cool with his customised spade, he also smells good from the awesome heistercamp leathery smell!

I used to repair and modify vending machines in the Subway , in Wash.DC ...I had no choice but to learn how to drill stainless steel .,.,.,yes it does suck, but I did what I had to do.,(LOL)
Thank you for your comment Jerry, i must ask... why? why would anyone in their right mind want to do anything with such a nasty material? i shattered around 8-10 carbide bits doing this. it hurt so much (the bruised ribs and the cut fingers and hands from the flying shards of drill bit) that i would be extremely reluctant to ever make another one. the sound really is phenomenal and unsurpassed by any other i've heard, simply because of the material. but hell no to ever working with hardened stainless steel ever again. anyone asking would likely get a two word response or be covering me with so much cash i would be calling them majesty. getting the speed right was tricky. finding that sweet spot where the bits are cutting but not overheating took a lot of effort.
crazy cool.,.,.,stainless is fun to drill.,.,,.I used to do it for a living.,.,you need the right bits and cutting oil.,.,plus a slower drilling speed.,.,stainless loves to ruin bits.,.,
