Seville 14.10.2012

This Guy was quite against me taking a photo but a snarl and a look of disgust he allowed me to take this one, would have loved to hear him play it but that might have been too much to ask. You have got to be thankful for small mercies! Anyone seen a git like this before?

  • Wow, great link to Heaven there Vinylhed! Loved the tour of the Kora, Toumani Diabate and Ali Farka Toure. The Kora is awesome beautiful sound and soul. True root of life music. Chris thanks for finding this cat and his Kora and asking the ? ....

  • Man you know your instruments, that has to be the one, would have liked to look more closely at the guy in Seville's, is rope criss crossing where the modern machine heads are? Are they thin blades with grooves to act as string holders that we can't see? Would have bought the guy drinks all day if he had not been so hard to approach but he was not having any of it so there it rests. Now see why the turned pillars are there, run through the skin to support the frame tension and grip for the pull against the strings, a whole new outlook on builds that will go on forever, just seeing the instruments from the past must be a few thousand years or more of history never mind the future, hey man you know the biz. Gav showed me the mail you sent him and his " haven't you got enough?" Your reply was what it takes to give that hard and resounding laugh that you can hear over mountains, God bless all our friends and the pleasure we all give, even in our laugh, thank's again and keep on building mate, all the best, Chris. :)

  • Looks like a Kora to me, Chris, you find them widely throughout West Africa.

Probably the best known Kora player is the Malian, Toumani Diabaté. Here's a vid of him playing with the late great master Malian bluesman, Ali Farka Touré.
