well, i dont have a counter. i make the bobbin about the same height as a single coil pup, wrap it till its full. usually comes in around 4 to 5 ohms, which sems about right. i use pole magnets from stewmac, sometimes i use bar magnets from radio shlock. try the local guitar shop, sometimes they will give you old import pups. if i use bar magnets, i cut the pole pieces from 3/16 mild steel rod, under 10 bucks for a 5 foot stick. i use the same rod for my truss rods. tip, use 42 awg wire, the 43 from stewmac is a little too delicate for my primative winder. check out skeesix and some of the other guys here, they really know how its done.
Hi Mike! Hey, any tips for winding p/ups? I've studied some a while ago, rigged up an old sewing machine, etc but I'm stalled out now. Do you have a wind counter? What kind of magnets do you use and where to buy? Any wisdom you could convey would be very much appreciated. Stay cool my friend!
