  • I am for the most part an experimental builder. I try, and test, new CBG building ideas all the time. No two of my guitars are the same - there is always a new idea that needs exploring. I also "design for function". Such designs are normally based on one or more of my own design principles. My preferred headstock design is what I call "Men in a canoe".

    Design principles were:

    • 14 degree slanted headstock (scarf joint)
    • All tuners on same side of neck.
    • Tuners facing the top of the neck (for a right handed player)
    • Turning tuner knobs clockwise increases tension on string
    • All strings leave nut at right angle (as seen in plan view)

Using left-handed tuners (I prefer full-sized guitar closed tuners) I came up with a design I call "Men in a canoe". I'll try to attach photos and/or graphics to explain on my page.

  • That headstock arrangement reminds me of an old minstrel banjo, definitely kool :)
