More notes on this build... The nut was a lucky last minute find at the local music store where my daughter works part time. It's cut down from a block of teflon-impregnated resin of some sort.
I was also pleasantly surprised to find out the the strings my daughter had picked up for me were black and silver.
The bridge is a section of zinc-plated 5/16 bolt with a nut at each end, I will be swapping that out with something in real stainless steel the next time I get to the hardware aisle at the local big-box...
