Here is how the neck is attached to the sound box. The support beam that runs down the middle of the box essentially extends the neck to the end of the sound box where a tail-piece will be located to secure the tail end of the strings. The "heel" of the neck is a separate piece which is glued on to the neck and side of the box and re-enforced with a single wood screw.
