Avoid frets at first. I'm completely out of control with the whole neck thing. Here are a couple where I'm attempting to add "binding" for visual effect. I cut the plugs with a cheap plugcutter bit and drill 1/4" holes. If I could find a place that sold 1/4" walnut dowl, I'd have done that instead. I found an idea on the web to make an inexpensive RadioShack nibbler into a fret tang nibbler. I got one from HarborFreigth.com and made the modification.
