Here the pick up is supported on a simple cradle made from plastic wall plugs.I got the best response when the distance between the string and the pick up was about a quarter on an inch

  • Typing too fast again, look at those typos go.. where is the edit button when you need it.
  • Tdhe pick up seemed brighter and it was much louder.As the unit was unshielded, there was a lot of feedback hum, so I figured if there was more volume at 1/4 icnh then I'd have to sue less gain on the amp and that might reduce the feedback.

     

    The next step would be to wire in a shielded jack plug... but the rig was only a quick fix to see if the magnetic pick up works...it could of course be finessed even more, not a job for today, I've  a dozen Pelton wheels to build from old CDs and plastic spoons

  • Neat (it's always good to see someone trying a bit of proper experimental testing). I'd be interested to know what change in response you encountered when the pickup was closer than a quarter of an inch? Did you notice any deterioration in tone or 'choking'?
