I used my Dremmel diamond wheel to cut the copper cover. Worked good. Sanded on my belt sander to round the edges and corners. 400 grit to burnish the surface.

Hey Paul, what metals can work well over mag pups? I think brass, copper and aluminum are ok. But I'm no expert. I don't think steel would work. Do you know?
This pickup was played a while before the copper cover and sounds as good and strong as before it was added. I have an Elmar, several Dan Sleep pickups all with copper covers. They all work great. I was worried the copper might hurt, but seems fine. I would have gone to a thin wood cover if needed.
How well does the pickup perform? Having any issues with weak signal?
Pickups usually have a base plate that aids or hinders the shaping of the magnetic field. Some pickups can suffer from the metal being between the pickup's poles and the strings. That can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what the pickup is mounted in and the pickup's strength.

I was lucky to find a nice sheet of copper. I'll be making copper parts for a long time.
