  Hi Lou, that pickup is a "Flatpup 3" which is very flat (less than 1/5"). It's pinned onto the top just below the strings, no need for a hole in the box or the neck below. In the shown pic, the rectangular transport frame which is used for shipping is also mounted. The frame is cut from cigar boxes btw ;-)
