Garage, well, i never got one even though back then i could have for $40. A friend was dealing them and i got to sit in with him. He was finger picking it in open tunings. The one thing i did get out of it was wonderful finger picks. They are simple ingenious wire picks that fit over your finger like a ring covered with tubing with wire bent over the tip of the finger. They picked in both directions easily and didn't come off the finger. I still have one of them in my old gear box.
Hey Garage, didn't mean to sound critical about the sitar sound. i usually can't shut my mouth when i start talking. That's what made me become a teacher. Anyhow, i apologize if i offended you. I almost owned a sitar once way back when. I loved their sound back in the 60s and still do. ... Dave
I have found the sitar sound often comes for me when i first finish a build. It usually comes from my nut. The new nut hasn't worked itself in yet and a little more filing and string height adjustment (at the nut) will often eliminate the wine.
