This is my 23rd build with the wiring complete. Decided to take a picture of the wiring for future reference. I now need to finish the neck.

  • I haven't made any videos. I installed this on my orange CBG under the center hole which puts a good distance between it and the strings. If I set my amp volume on 2 you can hear it pretty well (if I put it on 3, it would be loud). So they do pickup well. The coil is a 4.5K Pickup. They just came out with a $7.50 coil too (9k). MGB guitars has a video sample of the pickup (look for the link right above the price): http://www.mgbguitars.com/guitar-parts-pickups-five-p/20638.htm

  • Hey, Mike.... were you able to make a video with the 5 dollar pickup in action? I'd love to hear it. Thanks for the comment.

  • The pickup is a $5.00 pickup from MBG Guitars (they actually sound pretty good). I just hot glued it to the bottom of the lid after I drilled 5 small holes in the lid and put some grommets in the holes. The 27mm Piezo is hot glued in a Dasani water bottle cap. I cut a small tab out of the side so the wires will fit. I put hot glue in the bottom of the cap and then gently spread the cap and put the piezo in, and then cover it with more hot glue. Then I just hot glue the cap to the upper part of the box lid. By putting the piezo in the cap and hot glue, it does seem to tone down the piezo a bit. I also wrapped the wiring in copper tape to cut down on the hum. I plugged the box in an amp and tested the pickups by putting it right above the strings of another CBG for the coil, and then I laid the box lid on top of the CBG box lid that had strings and the piezo picked it up good. So now on the the most work, the neck, to finish this build.
