Musical Fruit

Some kind of white hard wood with a walnut fingerboard. Fun and sounds pretty good for a canjo.

  •  Thank you, Ambrose! Comfort was the biggest problem, plus I couldn't figure out how to hold it securely and play it at the same time, so I added the little tower. Fixed that issue pretty well. Now, still chewing on what form an upcoming single pole pickup is going to take and how to attach it... These are the types of "problems" I can sink my teeth into...

  • Neat Canjo! I like how you designed and built it regarding playable comfort.

  • Oh, and one last thing about this canjo, the little "tower" began as an experimental bridge. I went with another way to bring down the string to fretboard level.8096748264?profile=RESIZE_710x

  •  Thank you for that Jock!

Glenn, I will let you know. Might even post a sound test if my somewhat "iffy" video cam works for me...

  • Thanks for the explainer, cool. Let us know if you do the wallwart pup, that's something I've not tried yet... -Glenn

  •  Thank you Glenn! That is a fine compliment, coming from you. I stuck those bits of wood on the sides with a top on it that I could rest a couple of fingers on  for stability while playing. Well, I knocked it off awhile back. Been getting the urge to break out my homemade winder and making a little single-pole single coil to put in it. Perhaps that wall wart wire will warm it up a bit. Got some 42 for some bark? ?! So many projects....  Thanks again!

  • Southern Ray, I really like this and your blue canjo as well. On this one I'm intrigued by the two bits of wood sticking up on the neck. Wondering what/why, curious? :) I like it as you'd expect! -Glenn
  •  Thank you Uncle John! What exactly is a "strum stick"? I have seen a few gits they call that, but don't know what the requirements to be called that are.

  •  Thank you Jock!

"Try adding diatonic fretting.:" Why? Just kidding. I recently bought some Jumbo fret wire for zero-nuts and some medium frets, their miter box and saw from Gitty so I could try my hand at that. Maybe I should try that on a canjo first.
