Thanks Dave and bouydog, got a little 5w coming from China (of course) for $20. I'll gut it and mount it in a cigbox with a 5" and see how it goes. If it's ok, it's worth $20 to me to not have to solder up a circuit myself. I've only done that once and even with my elec. engineer buddy's help it took an hour.
Hi Glenn... Check Ebay for first act amps I believe they may fit the bill for a five watt amp. I used one before and they work pretty well. Some work on batt power and some are run by adapter..... Dave
Hi Glenn the circuit is from a burswood 5w amp I think these are sold as part of a guitar & amp combo aimed at kids. I cannot comment on battery life yet as it is not quite finished and I have only tested it to make sure it all works, speaker cover to be sourced. But it can be used with a mains adapter, socket between the legs.

Thanks Paul found a speaker cover today so it's done.
Looks great...

Score!
Hi Glen where else could it go.
You are right I would not pay that either, I paid £4.50 ebay.

Thanks for the info. Not sure I'll pony up a $100 to pull it apart and check out the circuit though.
Socket between the legs...BAHAHAHAHA! Sorry. I'm kinda immature.

Very cool. What circuit are you using to get 5W output running from a 9v battery? Battery life must be pretty short at 5W, yeah?
