Mikel, great idea. I'm going to tear apart my childrens trampoline. I'll have about 60 springs than. No just kidding, I think I have some left between my junk in the garage, must check this.
Believe it or not, they work great. I had about 30 of them lying around,and just gave it a try. A high E (10) will slip,but I never use 'em. I use them as nuts sometime too. I actually have gotten request to put them on commisioned builds.

Did I mention they are trem springs. I think you probaly already knew. I haven't tried other types. Cheers!

The spring as a bridge, unseen. Does it affect the sound ?
I would expect the thin strings to slip between the coils of the spring.
