on a 1.5" wide neck blank, i generally don't taper the neck. any wider, and i do, and it looks pretty freakin sweet. my purpleheart mandolin has a tapered neck, i think it was a 2" blank.
either way, i leave my necks nice and chunky. i love the feel of them that way.
i am eager to see how your mandolin turns out, and suspect it will be a thing of beauty!
Haven't yet. got a couple more customer builds to get out the door first. good the wood set aside, though. I was just pondering whether to make the neck tapered, but looking at your builds I don't think I am going to. Plus there's more room for fretting chords in the first position this way.
