i'm not sure if katalox is still frequently imported, if at all. but if you can find it, it's a great wood. very very very hard stuff. i use it for fingerboards as well... and i have read martin uses or used it quite a bit.
cool a mandocello is on my to do list. neck strength was one thing i was concerned with. i had to google katalox, wasnt familiar with it.
BTW i asked on one of your older pics about the way you mount your piezo rod pickups, it looks like you just have them sandwiched between the lid and neck? i havent tried it that way but found they dont work so well without string pressure directly on them, is there enough pressure in that location?
I'm putting faith in the hardness and rigidity of the katalox "truss rod". I figure if old ebony strengthened necks built during wartime are still holding up alright, a chunky laminated CrocBite neck with a solid center should be alright, but time will tell.

Nice! did you need to use a truss rod or any kind of strength support on the neck for this one?
