The nuts do not rotate. It's hard to see in this photo, but the lock-nuts are fit into hexagon slots in the wood. For ukulele strings this worked great as there isn't that much tension. However, the nylon insert in the lock-nuts does wear out over time and tuning. Luckily they can be easily swapped out as needed.

How do these work exactly? Looks to be a nut on each side. How well do they work?
