The strings are usually strummed while the left hand mutes those that you don't want to vibrate. Definitely a unique sound! You can actually find a lot of people playing them on youtube.
It looks like a neat instrument. How is this played? Maybe plucked like a harp or played with a pick like a guitar? It vaguely looks like a Greek lyre.
