We don't have home depot or Lows in France, neither Yard sticks, I would like to test one... I know pine works more than other hard woods, good for vibrations, but not for high tensions.
I think a glued on fingerboard makes them much stronger. Yard sticks from Lowes or Home Deopot for under a buck. I have not tried it, but I have a bundle of lathes. I sanded one and it cleaned up nice enough for a finger board.
Fine to work, cheap, and good until the strings or not too strong... I had only one neck that bended. I don't know if it's due to warm house or the fingerboard in different wood, working differently...
