Under the saddle is a piezo rod. The saddle is a heavy gauge copper rod JB welded onto mild steel flat-bar. Piezo pickups get more "UMPH" the more they are in contact with the string vibration's downward pressure. The plate is affixed into 4 nut plates hidden under the top. This allows access later into the box for maintenance, etc.
