  • Thanks for the info...Will keep you updated when I try and make pickups

  • Hello Darryl,

No the pole pieces are not magnetized. All they are is pieces of a 3/16" steel rod I cut into 3/4" lengths. I made the bobbins from pieces of wood you find inside a cigar box and drilled them out for the 3/16" rod pieces and super glued them in place. Then I wound the coil wire with a home made winder I made out of an old drill. Then solder on the leads and wax pot the pickup. Lastly I stick three neodymium magnets on the bottom end of the pole pieces after wax potting the pickup. I suppose I should glue the magnets on but so far they have worked fine just sticking them on. Make sure they are all facing the same direction (N or S). I have made three pickups this way and they all sound fantastic. It's fairly easy once you make one or two but getting set up takes a little work and time. I may make a YouTube video of the process the next time I make on and I'll try to post it here if I do.

  • Are the pole pieces magnetized? Do you use another magnet to wrap the wire around? I am still trying to figure out building pickups
