  You can get a propane set up at a welding shop for about 15.00 bucks. Torch it before you do your sanding to bring out the grain of the wood. Then use your sand paper... Good luck man...

  Thanks... Its a maple neck with a red wood fret board. I used a torch to burn both the neck and the fretboard. Then I sprayed both with shellac for a finish.
