I have a lot to learn too. I've only built three of these but I used to build primitive style furniture and other such things. I did ok with that so I try to apply some of that to the guitars. Sounds like we need to keep up with each other and share what we learn on future builds as rookies...lol.
Hey tnfishdaddy! I plan to try this on my next build. I see what you did wrong though. The head should sit on top of the neck instead of under. Then if you add a separate finger board, the head would sandwich between the the neck and finger board making a pretty strong joint.....plus it hides the wider connections in the joint.

Less of an angle would look a little better. You need to sand back until you don't see the joint.
Nothing wrong with that joint. A little elbow grease should clean it right up. Looks good.
By hand scarf joint did not come out very good. Need to figure out how to do this better.
