Horn handled sticks to go with.

Buffalo with nickel collar, figured hazel shank, rams horn, bronze collar with black North American walnut ebonised with an old 78rpm record dissolved in cellulose thinners, shaken but not stirred for two weeks before applying with a natural hair brush. A veneer shank on a square dowel ready to round off for the next project, just a few techniques that can be incorporated into builds lads.

  • Pihtbull, another old method of ebonising wood is to put some rusty and it has to be rusty wire wool or rusty nails, screws etc into a jar of vinegar, shake daily for a few days and paint on a scrap piece of wood to test, works well with woods containing high levels of tannin such as oak. This mix does give off a gas that is flammable so best kept away from naked flames. All the best mate, Chris. :)

  • Hi Pihtbull, the black shank finish is the record, sorry mate but I made a mistake, I should have said 78 record, the ones that shatter when dropped. What I did was drop some small pieces of the broken 78rpm record into a clean screw top jar with cellulose thinners in and shook daily until I achieved the thickness that I wanted. The 78rpm records are cheap and easy to obtain (very few are collectables but worth checking before breaking).

  • what part is the dissolved 45 ?
