Headstock prototype

Having built the amp, now I need a guitar. I do know that once I complete a 3-string, I'm going to make a 4-string. This is a prototype head I put together that I can use for either design. My son wants me to make one with a skull and crossbones head but for now I think I'll stick with this clean & simple design.

  • I do a lot of my heads with that wedge effect between the neck and fretboard. It makes for a very strong connection and looks clean if done right. I've looked at some factory made necks that use a similar design.
  • Yes, I did notice after the fact that I'd done it "backwards" from most of the others I'd looked at.  At the time I was mostly thinking about how to set up the cut on my miter saw while keeping all of my fingers intact, so it wasn't an intentional design choice.  Here's what it looks like with the final shaping.305728841?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

  • That' really interesting......most builders usually glue the scarfed headstock under the neck.

However I'm starting to think that doing it the way you've done, when you glue the fretboard to the neck the headstock would be further strengthened.

    Nice clean looking headstock :-)
