  It`s just a cap over the tuners, string tree gives the down pressure

  Thanks Uncle John. The font is a flap hinged on the opposite side. It is held closed by a few strong magnets. The whole piece swings open to access the tuners. There is a small opening on the bottom for the strings to exit.

  It is purely cosmetic. Was worried it might rattle but so far so good...
