side view of body, the string supresser increased the volume when i added it. i figgered more pressure on the bridge would increase the volume and it did.

  • i think that since the box is hollow it would not be as loud but i could be wrong,but the pressure of the strings would pull harder on the top if they were secured on the top of the box instead of the back of the box,might cause it to warp eventually. if there were a solid block in the box it would be ok to have the strings run through the box and come out at the spot where the suppressor is, if i added a block right under the suppressor i could run the strings thru the box from the back,that would be an experiment worth trying to see the difference,but i think that block being that close to the resonator pan would rob some of the vibration at the resonator causing it to have less volume.i like to experiment with different configurations to find maximum acoustic volume,so i will always try different methods to acheive that end result.thanks for your question it is a good one Will Carter.
  • Just out of interest - if the tailpiece was where the string suppressor is (like on gibson bridges) do you think it would it be louder or softer?
