fret board construction dot detail

This is how my fretboards are made. Cut to size, fret slots cut, holes drilled for dots, and then I take a pen blank of acrylic luster chuck it into my lathe and turn it down to about 3/8ths or .377" so its a nice snug fit in the hole. Then it is inserted into the hole from the finished side, but not all the way flush to allow glue to set up when you mount your board to the neck. That way your dots will have no chance to ever pop out or get loose. Then it is sliced close to the fretboard being careful not to nick the surface and on to the next one. Sometimes a bit of superglue is needed to lock them into position so they dont work loose or move during the sanding proceedure, because you want to make sure they are sanded flush to the fretboard. The rest of the blank which is square will be shaped and sanded for the bridge. More on that one later.
