most of my guitars have been built using cabinet and furniture shop cast-offs and salvaged wood from remodeling old homes. I have yet to pay for any of the wood on any of my guitars!! I am hoping to keep it that way :) :)
good idea! at 1/2" thick they might even work for archtops---I have some that are wider---these are from high-end cabinets when the customer wants to add glass panels

Looks like box wood to me. Hollowneck? Dulcimer? 3 box tops and backs. Could be many things. Cherry sounds good as tonewood.

Cabinet shops are great places to score free wood. Face frame scrap is 1 1/2" wide and 3/4" thick - perfect neck material, among other things...
