IMHO a through stick makes for a much easier build on a tin like this :).
I have also taken to lining my tins with cardboard, (cut up corrugated box) to prevent the flexing of the tin, which otherwise can introduce unwanted whang's thunks and clicks. I have tried making wooden braces - like an acoustic guitar, but they seem to introduce out of phase reverberations.

Jeff : I have seen that done, but yet to try it
Ben : I will see what I can figure out, the tin seems pretty stable so far
Looking good you could try using a old silver fork bent and fashioned to hold the strings .
