Joe,
Thanks! The tailpiece is a deceptive. There is a 1x2 (1.75x.75) piece of poplar running through the box. From the point where the poplar enters, it is shaved down about 1/8" (prolly less) to account for the lid thikness. The fingerboard is oak (would have liked rosewood or ebony) which extends over the box lid. at the tail end, I laid a piece of the same oak for consistency, tho my idea was to stain the fingerboard and the tailpiece. As you can see, I only did the tailpiece. The end of the tailpiece is again oak, but placed on perpendicular to the strings. This would minimize the strings cutting in to the oak. The strings enter into holes drilled at an angle into the tail and come out the bottom. That way the string loops/beads won't be readily seen.
Have I completely confused you ;-) ?
The pickup is the speaker element from a musical birthday card (see my photos for what it looks like). I need to build a preamp as the piezo's don't have much pickup and don't match the impedence of a guitar amp.
Ooooo cherry. NICE! Will make a GREAT neck. Thinking about reinforcement??? I have seen on Youtube where this guy cuts a channel in the neck (between the neck material and fetboard) and lays in a ~1/2 x ~1/16 piece of iron bar.
Love this, Is the tail piece an add on or did you go throght the box? also what kind of pickup are you using? Piezo? I have to post a pic of the one I have been toying wiht for a year. Its a hecho a mano box with a cherry neck. Hopefull
