My 4th build. A four stringer and this one was a hot mess to build! First, I tried ebonizing the oak fretboard with Fiebings leather dye (USMC black). Looked awful! When I sanded it off with 220 grit, though, I got a nice aged look. Boiled linseed oil on the fretboard made it really work. Lucked out there. Kristoff box turned around backward.

Looks good - I'm going to have to try that ebonizing solution. Modern wood dyes just don't seem as good as the older stuff. They probably banned all of the decent solvents to save the ozone layer.

btw, I've cooked up a proper ebonizing solution with vinegar and steel wool. Smells awful. Works surprisingly well.
